| | Ok I believe there was a lot of miss information floating out there about F200 and the cost of operation which we have not found to be true with Yamaha and Honda engines we have running here at Miller. On another forum which is very popular with Briggs racers have thrown out some wild numbers as far as cost to be competitive again we have not found to be true in our case with the Yamaha and Honda. So I am building a Briggs F200, so far the cost is about the same as the Honda and a bit more than the Yamaha (parts and labor) I will have a complete understanding once final assembly is complete and the tuning begins. Anyway any advice regarding the the things I need to look out for with the Briggs engine will be helpful. mwright@millermotorsportspark.com

| | Briggs F200 update, If all goes well and time/work schedule permitting should have the engine on the track mid September. This has been been a interesting project being my first Briggs engine build, the engine does take more time due to the additional machine work needed on the block and head. I bought a World Formula head but in in hindsight think the Animal head would have given more options for porting. This project does give new apperciation for the Yamaha YF200 R1 Kit engine as the best package to get someone started in the class.

| | Mitch Have any details on what you are using for components? Rods, pistons, cams, valves, etc. Show us some pics also, if you get a chance. Mike |

| | Hi Mike, The Briggs project has been slow moving, busy at the track and been building quite a few F200 R1 Yamaha's so it keeps getting pushed back. Gen 5 Block and side cover, I bought a complete new Animal engine and sold the crank, rod, head manifold and carb. Intek Crank Animal Flat top piston .030 over, haven't had much luck finding a aftermarket piston any idea's? The Briggs guys tell me the OE piston will hold up, I hope I don't do any destructive testing. ARC Intek F200 Rod Comp Cam and duel valve springs World Formula OE Valves, still looking for Stainless valves that I are the quality i want World Formula Head, once i get it together and running I will buy a Animal head and start over. I have a Tilly manifold from Jimbo for a open carb that I have to sleeve down for the F200 carb. I think I will just run it on the oval to get the bugs sorted before I run WFO on our sprint track. I don't have it together yet but if i do another I will do somethings differently

| Mitch, if you can, try Wiseco to see if they have any Briggs F200 pistons left. They made some with the low drag XA ring pack (.8mm top, 1mm 2nd and 2mm oil) and they make more power than the Briggs piston which has a 1.5mm top, 1.5mm 2nd and 2.5 one piece oil. The XA has a lot less parasitic drag than the OEM rings and will probably seal better due to the variation in cylinder wall thickness of the OEM cylinder. Mike |

| Thanks Mike, I will check with Wisco again and ask them to look deep in to the back shelve.

| | Well, my Briggs F200 is done but haven't fired her up yet. Now I just need to fine the time for some dyno runs, track test will have to wait until the spring. I did end up buying an Animal head which provided a much better starting point for porting and a manifold for the Animal head from EC which also matches the smaller port. I didn't have any luck finding a aftermarket piston/rings so the OE stuff is my baseline. It going to fun running the Yamaha, Honda and Briggs track test.
